From today, France is requiring people to show they are fully vaccinated before being allowed into bars, restaurants, on intercity travel services and many cultural events.
The pass will be needed even to have a drink on a terrace.
The law comes into force despite thousands protesting in cities against the move, calling it an infringement of civil liberties. But opinion polls show the new law actually enjoys broad support – with up to 70% saying they back the move.
If the law is designed to persuade the lazy and reluctant to get a jab, then it’s working.
Since the announcement, millions have been vaccinated. Currently 64% of the over 12s are fully vaccinated and the reservation system is busy.
The Swiss issued QR vaccination code is valid In France and will be recognised by scanners.
