Left wing parties in Geneva are launching a referendum against the so called ‘corset’ laws, which are designed to restrict spending.
The Cantonal Grand Council, which has a right-wing majority, adopted two motions. One would ban the hiring of new people if there’s a budget deficit – except for teachers – and the other would link benefit payments to demographics.
Opponents say it will lead to massive cuts in benefits payments.
