After the release of the Swiss rail profits, the SBB gave journalists an insight into it’s thinking for the future.
It says it makes money from international routes and wants to have more services running to other European cities, especially in France, Spain and Italy. It’s looking to buy new high-speed trains.
But it poured cold water on hopes of a service to London. It says not before 2030 at best – but even then, there are major hurdles. It needs to find a route and stations need to be adapted to cater for post-Brexit immigration rules.
But Swiss Federal Railways did highlight it considers the route between Geneva and Lausanne to be a priority for the coming decades as usage is expected to climb by 50% by 2050.
