Scammers private jet scheme scuppered

A group of scammers thought their plan to charter a private jet for a free ride to Cyprus had been successful – only to be arrested at Geneva airport.

Using stolen ID papers and a fake bank transfer document suggesting the EUR 40,000 fee had been paid, the five young men turned up to take the flight. 

But the private jet company had been aware of the fraud from the start – and decided with the police to set a trap. 

The five men – all in their twenties – arrived for their trip. However, instead of free champagne and luxurious armchairs, they all got two days in a detention cell and a suspended fine of CHF 1,200 each.
