The decision by Parisian voters to triple the price of parking a large SUV in the city has triggered a debate on whether Swiss cities should do the same.
Currently here there is no official motion to charge more for parking an SUV, the Greens have submitted an idea to ban the import of cars weighing more than 2 tonnes.
The Federal Council is recommending the rejection of the idea, saying measures to cut CO2 emissions should apply to all cars.
It adds some people legitimately use large vehicles – such as farmers and construction workers.
