The new Geneva law banning single use plastic for foods, which should have come into force at the beginning of the year, has been out on hold after a court ruling.
The Federal Court has yet to rule on an appeal by the major supermarkets, so a Geneva court has ordered a hold on its implementation until Federal judges reach a decision.
Many retailers say the decision will give them time to find alternatives. Food truck owners say the sustainable alternatives are more expensive and the Home Care Institution which delivers food to the housebound says it hasn’t yet found a viable alternative to the packaging it currently uses.
