Swiss retailers are benefitting from the sale of snus to shopping tourists, especially near the German border.
Snus is a package of flavoured tobacco designed to be placed under the lip. It then releases nicotine into the body.
Despite it being banned across the EU, except in Sweden, it’s becoming more popular as smoking rates decline.
It’s allowed in Switzerland and retailers close to the border say they’re selling a lot to cross-border shoppers.
An MP for the Swiss People’s Party, Lukas Reimann, told the 20 Minutes newspaper that’s its good news for Swiss retailers – but he believes the rules in the EU are absurd, especially as rules surrounding cannabis are being relaxed.
