Soil studies for new CERN collider start

Vibrating trucks designed to examine the subsoil are now moving through several communes in Haute Savoie in neighbouring France.

They’re part of a feasibility study for the proposed Future Circular Collider for CERN.

The new collider would stretch from Geneva to Annecy. Scientists say it will help in the understanding of all matter in the universe.

The trucks will send vibrations though the soil, creating a picture of what’s underneath. CERN says they won’t disturb locals as the vibrations will be at a very low frequency. 

If the new collider is given to go ahead, it won’t be completed until the end of the century.
