We’re still throwing away too much food.
Two years ago, the government launched a campaign to cut food waste.
Figures from the Federal Office of the Environment show that each person in the country throws away 19 kilos of food every year which could have been eaten if better planned.
That figure is described as ‘considerable,’ by the office.
The Food Waste Association say that’s worth about CHF 600 of food a year for each person.
The advice is not to buy perishable products all at the same time, and make sure they’re in the fridge in a visible position.
Also use leftovers and don’t treat expiration dates as absolute.
