Switzerland has been hit by violent storms, with nearly 7,500 lightning strikes recorded by yesterday evening.
The federal weather service MeteoSchweiz reported wind gusts of up to 114 km/h in St Gallen and heavy rain in Ticino.
Bern was the worst-hit canton for lightning, while a fallen tree disrupted rail traffic between Bern and Thun, cancelling and delaying regional trains.
In Vaud, strong gusts swept across the EPFL campus in Ecublens, hurling chairs from a rooftop terrace. The storms eased overnight, but lingering disruption could affect transport across the country.
