The damage caused by the summer storms that hit canton Valais will cost CHF 125m.
More than 80 communes have been affected.
The main damage was to roads and waterways.
Individuals and small businesses who may not be fully insured against all the damage are talking to the charities, Swiss Solidarity and the Red Cross.
The canton has sent questionnaires to the communes asking what the need help with.
The aluminium smelter, Novelis, which employs 500 people was forced to shut down due to storm damage. It should reopen this week.
