Emergency services were out in force yesterday and overnight as strong winds battered the region, downing trees and damaging buildings. But there have been no injuries.
Firefighters in Geneva were called 250 times yesterday as gusts reached close to 100 kph.
Teams were sent to the top of a six-story building in Eaux-Vives to secure a metal sheet which was loose and could have blown away.
Trees had to be cut up to clear roads and streets were closed off. The Quai du Mont-Blanc was sealed off for two hours while part of a balcony that had come free was secured.
Teams will remain on alert this morning.
