The home is dangerous

It’s becoming more dangerous to be at home or taking time off.

New figures from the Accident Prevention Council show there’s been a rise of 20% of people dying in accidents in the home or during leisure activities over the past 10 years.

The rate has risen on average by 31 a year to 2,100.

The average age of those dying at home is 82, while in traffic or sporting accidents the age is 53.

There are more people dying through falls at home due to an aging population.

There’s been no change to the number of children who die due at accidents at home – on average one a month.
