The weather service SRF Météo says this year was the second warmest year on record. It was also the second wettest year.
Last year was the hottest on record.
Compared to the average from 1961 to 1990, temperatures were 2.5 degrees higher than the norm.
This year’s figures were pushed up by a very unusually warm October, but then temperatures dropped sharply.
Many areas of the country, especially in the east, also recorded extremely high levels of rain.

Old scams still popular
It's an old scam, but it remains a favorite. Thieves are posing as electricity workers to get into homes in north-west Switzerland. In the Basel region, scammers are ringing doorbells, claiming to work for Elektra Baselland and asking to check meters - but once inside, they steal valuables. The electricity company stresses its staff always carry clear ID, never ask for cash, and never pressure residents. Police are also warning of similar fake tradesmen in Aargau. Authorities say - if in doubt, don’t open the door – and call the police.
