Canton Ticino is asking for all visitors to wear a mask when they come this Easter.
The break is traditionally a very busy time for the southern canton – and despite the pandemic, this year seems to be no exception.
Hoteliers say they are heavily booked already and there’s strong demand for apartments and campsites.
But authorities are worried. A third wave is raging across the border in Italy, which is in a lockdown.
The mayor of Lugano says they are considering compulsory masks outdoors and in Locarno and Ascona, both cities are considering making masks compulsory in the main squares.
But the tourist industry says visitors are needed. Starting the season this Easter is essential, says the Tourism Director, Angelo Trotta. He says businesses have suffered for too long, but he also urges visitors to act responsibly.
