Switzerland takes its seat on the UN Security Council next year as one of the 10 non-permanent members.
The inclusion has been criticised by some politicians who believe sitting on the council threatens Switzerland’s neutral status.
The seating plan has been unveiled – Switzerland will sit between Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
The government says it will use its position to back sustainable peace, the protection of civilians in war zones and promote transparency.
