The results from the unique Swiss underwear experiment will soon be in.
An idea which triggered headlines around the world, the Agroscope Research Institute together with the University of Zurich asked for volunteers around the country to bury their underwear at the end of April.
Around 1,000 agreed – and now is the time they have to be dug up. The now very soiled garments will be posted to researchers who will check how much they’ve decayed, the bacteria involved and the general microbial diversity.
The aim is a build a picture of the condition of the soil across the country.
The hope is once the results are known, there will be recommendations on how to keep the soil healthy.
