Vaud cow procession cancelled

The Désalpe in Saint-Cergue will not take place this year.

Organizers of the traditional cow herd procession, scheduled for September 27, say they face a “big disappointment” after authorities banned cattle parades due to the spread of a contagious bovine disease. 

Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), detected earlier this month in neighbouring France, has led the Vaud Directorate of Agriculture to impose strict measures. 

Farmers in parts of the Nyon district must vaccinate their herds and keep them in place for 28 days. 

The 38th edition of the Désalpe is now postponed to 2026.
