Despite campaigners in the Geneva commune of Vernier claiming success in collecting names to force the issue of street billboards to the vote, it wasn’t enough.
The news of the possible vote made the papers across the country.
The aim is to ban billboards on public land. Those in favour say they’re an eyesore and are a hindrance – but others say it’s an affordable and effective local advertising methods for small businesses.
But in the end, the vote has been rejected as the petition was 300 names short. It needed 1,921 and only 1,622 were counted.
