Geologists watching the mountain which threatens the village of Blatten in canton Valais say so far most of the rocks which they believe could crash down, have fallen in smaller bursts, as experts had hoped.
They say around 1.5 million cubic meters of rock have fallen, but there’s still more than 3 million to come.
Precautions are also being taken to protect the Lonza River which could be inundated with debris if the rocks fall onto the nearby glacier, which could trigger a massive debris flow.
The village remains deserted as the mountainside is being monitored by radar and cameras.
