Voters may scupper US trade deal

The trade deal with the US is still not finalized – although talks are close to conclusion.

It would reduce import tariffs from 39% to 15%.

But the deal still has a major hurdle to pass before it comes into effect – a popular vote. And a major survey suggests voters are not happy.

The deal will seemingly allow duty free US imports, certain meat and an agreement never to impose a digital tax on the American tech giants.

69% of voters are either against or strongly against such a deal.

The director of the polling company, Sotomo, Michael Hermann, says he’s surprised about the clarity of the results.

He says he believes the people are resisting normalizing Trump and his imperialistic approach.

Nearly 10,000 people were questioned for the survey.
