The pandemic and associated lockdowns is driving the market for high end at home coffee machines. The company Zuriga says demand for its machines has never been so high – and is recruiting more staff for its assembly line.
The machines are not cheap – at about CHF 1,500.
But they allow for more personalization, such as water temperature and pressure as well as a free choice of coffee beans.
The Bern based coffee specialists, Adrianos, says the interest in better home coffee machines is widespread. The co-owner, Evelyn Schneider, says capsule machines are declining as people want more environmentally friendly options. Also, they’re missing café style coffee as they’re stuck at home.
Switzerland is one of Europe’s leading coffee consumer – on average over 9 kilos of coffee each year per person. Only the Scandinavian countries drink more.
