An important step in the programme to reintroduce eagles to the Alps was taken yesterday as three young birds were released in to the wild.
Two left immediately, but one, called Grace of Monaco, decided the weather was too overcast and stayed in her cage. But it’s expected she’ll join her sisters later.
Three weeks ago, two young males were released – and after a journey of nearly 2,000 km, they’ve returned to the region.
It’s hoped the release will go better than a year ago. A bird that joined the wild last September was shot dead earlier this year.
The animals are protected, a man has been arrested.
The birds have been reared by Les Aigles du Léman, near the lake shore in Haute-Savoie.
