Zurich is most expensive city

Zurich is the most expensive city in the world – together with Singapore.

Geneva is third – tied with New York, which was number one last year.

The ranking has been published by the Economist newspaper.

The study examined 173 cities. It estimates inflation has increased costs by over 7% on average, down from 8% in 2022.

The survey uses the US dollar as a base currency, so the authors point out the appreciation of the Euro against the greenback means generally higher costs in Europe.

The biggest drop in rankings were the Russian cities of Moscow and St Petersburg, due to the collapse of the Ruble.

The cheapest cities in the world are Damascus and Tehran.
