Canton Geneva has launched a criminal investigation after hundreds of fish were poisoned in the Aire River, which runs through Plan-les-Ouates.

Focus is now on a commercial laundry after scientists determined the fish were killed by a detergent product.

The Cantonal Water Office estimates around 200 litres of the product was poured into a drain designed to collect rain water within the industrial area in Plan-les-Ouates.

The cantonal Prosecutor’s Office confirms criminal proceedings have been launched against an unnamed person.
