Electricity prices are set to rise again this year. In Geneva it could be 18%. In Lausanne a hike of 11% is expected – but Fribourg could see as much as 28%.
In Geneva, the canton says the main reason is the ongoing war in Ukraine which is pushing up the price of gas.
The canton also explains why the recent price fall of energy on the international markets is not feeding through to households. It’s because prices are negotiated months ahead.
Lausanne is able to keep the price lower by using more hydro power in the canton.
