The Swiss Broadcasting Corporation says it will switch off all its radio FM transmitters at the end of the year.
It says the old system is expensive and the costs can’t be justified as now only 10% of people listen exclusively to FM.
The vast majority now listen digitally – either on DAB or online – says the SSR.
No news yet on what private stations will be doing. Under the law, all FM signals must go by the end of 2026 – but any station is free to switch off FM whenever it chooses. All now broadcast simultaneously on DAB.
The corporation also points out that DAB radio has been fitted to cars as standard for the last few years.
The FM switch-off will also affect the repeaters in tunnels.
