In Geneva, the Council of State wants to simplify online administrative procedures with the “once only” principle.
Today, citizens are often asked to provide the same information multiple times due to siloed services.
The new system would replace data possession with controlled data sharing through a digital safe. Salary certificates or diplomas, for example, could be stored there, shared only with user consent and withdrawn at any time.
The goal is faster, more secure e-procedures and less red tape, says the government.
A credit of CHF 19m will be requested for the project, with a vote next year and completion planned in 2027.
