The population of Greater Geneva is continuing to grow - and by the 2050 there could be around 400,000 more people living in the area.
Greater Geneva includes Geneva, the area around Nyon and neighbouring France. Right now, the population is about a million.
Figures from the cantonal office of statistics show while the population continues to grow, it's down from its rate at the end of the nineties.
Then population then was growing at 1.3% a year – currently it’s between point 6% and 1.1%.
But over the next few years the average age will be older – there could be more than double the number of pensioners in 20 years than there are now.
