A national manhunt is underway after a 34-year-old convicted of several violent crimes managed to escape from a prison van taking him to court in canton Aargau.
He’s been convicted of bodily harm, assault, property damage and drugs offences. Many of his acts of violence have been against women – including his wife.
He was sentenced to 27 months in prison, but his sentence was coming to end.
He was due in court to fight a second part of his punishment, deportation, as he’s a Tunisian national.
He slipped his guards while at Aarau train station. Police have confirmed he was handcuffed when he escaped on Tuesday afternoon.
It hasn’t been confirmed if he was under the charge of police or a private security guard.
