No, it is not illegal for restaurant owners to ask for ID to back up the vaccination pass.
Since the new rules came in which mean only those with a pass can enter many public areas, some have claimed that only a sworn officer has the right to demand ID from members of the public.
But a Vaud lawyer says that’s not true and has been happening for years. Ludivine Veuthey, speaking to the 20 minutes newspaper, points out we’re used to showing ID to postal workers and some shop staff for various reasons.
She says the current rules do not totally hamper people in their day-to-day life – only restricts some certain activities if they can’t show a pass.
