Burglaries are surging across French-speaking Switzerland, with Geneva the hardest hit canton in the country
Insurer AXA says claims rose 9% last year, with payouts topping CHF 22 million.
Between 2019 and 2025, Geneva saw 8.4 break-ins per thousand households per year — more than double the Swiss average.
Vaud, Neuchâtel and Jura are also well above average.
The average cost of a single burglary has reached a record CHF 7,000.-, up 30% in three years.
AXA warns that this weekend's clock change brings earlier darkness: break-ins jump 45% between October and March, with December the worst month.
