While school children everywhere had their education disrupted because of covid – Swiss children missed fewer lessons than many others.
According to a large international study, published in ‘Nature Human Behaviour’, on average kids lost around a third of the school year in the covid years, but only a sixth in Switzerland.
The study also showed progress in children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds suffered the most.
For all children, the biggest deficit was in mathematics. The study’s authors suggest that this is down to many parents reading to their children during lockdowns – but not solving maths problems.
The study examined figures from 15 high and middle earning countries.
