Mixed results in school classrooms

Swiss 15-year-olds still rank among the world's best in maths and science, but their performance in reading and maths is sliding

According to the latest PISA study out today, Switzerland scored 501 points in science, 499 in maths and 470 in reading — all above the OECD average.

Only three of the 38 OECD countries did better in maths.

But over the past decade the Swiss reading score has fallen from 492 to 470, and the maths score from 521 to 499.

The Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education says the same downward trend is visible across the OECD.
