Last year, nearly a 1,000 same sex couples married, according to government numbers. That down from 1,700 during the first year after the law changed in 2022.
But it’s expected the numbers will start to fall from now, based on the experience from nearby countries.
It’s a catch-up affect. Many couples have been waiting for years before being able to formalize their situation. As the back-log clears, the numbers will fall.
In all, same sex unions – which includes marriages and partnerships – number 4,700.
But with marriages, come divorces. So far, 41 same sex couples have divorced – mainly from canton Zurich.
