The motoring organisation, the TCS, is perplexed as to why the rate of serious accidents and drink driving increased in 2020 when there were Covid restrictions in place and traffic was generally lower than normal.
In the so called ‘Corona Year’ of 2020, there were point 47 serious road injuries per 10,000 people compared to point 44 in 2019.
In addition, 23 people died due to drink driving in 2020 – the year before it was 20.
A TCS spokesman says the numbers are difficult to explain.
Geneva was again top for the most dangerous roads in the country. It recorded 1 serious accident per 10,000 people. It’s been top ever since the ranking was brought in in 2017.
