Threat of air controllers strike

Tensions are rising amongst air traffic controllers with the risk of a possible strike.

A Swiss people’s Party parliamentarian, Andreas Glarner, has put in a motion to raise the retirement age for controllers to 65, up from the current 60. 

He says they benefit unfairly from tax payers’ money. In the past it was recognised the job carried a stress level so a younger retirement age may have been justified. But now, he says, people are aging healthier. 

He also says there are other jobs in the service, not just those in front of a radar screen.
