The government says it will work as fast as it can to issue visas to Turkish nationals who have been affected by the earthquake and could be temporarily homed by relatives or friends in Switzerland – but insists they must have passports.
Some parliamentarians are calling for more flexibility, including allowing people in without passports.
But the State Secretariat for Migration says people must be identifiable – and also point out it will be difficult for them to leave Turkey without a passport.
By yesterday – there had been 1,200 requests for emergency visas.
