University fees may triple for foreign students

Swiss universities may triple the fees paid by foreign students.

Swiss fees are among the lowest in the world – even if fees were tripled, they would still be considered modest on an international basis.

Many highly respected international institutions charge 40 times as much as Switzerland. The EPFL in Lausanne and the ETH in Zurich are also recognised as among the best in the world.

Yesterday the House of Representatives voted in favour of a motion which would allow higher fees for foreign students, the Upper House has yet to decide.
