While many cantons, Geneva especially, is looking to extend urban 30 kph speed zones – on a national level the Association of Public Transport, says such a slow speed should be an exception and not a rule.
At a press conference in Bern, the association says slower traffic just makes public transport slower.
It says the best way to make travel more sustainable is to encourage walking and bike use – as well as extending public transport.
But it warns that a rapid decarbonization of its fleet does need significant start up funding.
