The Swiss Tourist Office is celebrating the number of hotel stays which are now back up to the level they were before the pandemic – and US citizens are leading the charge.
The latest figures show there were almost 43 million overnight stays last year – a new record.
But the makeup of visitors has changed since covid. Americans are the second largest group, after the Germans, with a 14% rise in US visitors since 2023.
But the number of visitors from China, the Gulf States and the UK is down.
Internal visitors also remain strong – Swiss residents accounted for 21 million overnight stays.
