Voters have overwhelmingly rejected two major national initiatives.
More than 84% voted against introducing a mandatory civic duty for all citizens, and 78% rejected a proposed national inheritance tax on large fortunes- turnout was a respectable 43%, and every canton voted no.
The civic-duty proposal, seemingly once popular, collapsed in the final weeks, amid concerns about cost and bureaucracy.
Supporters argued it would boost equality and civic engagement, but opponents warned it created more problems than it solved.
The inheritance-tax plan, pushed by the Young Socialists, aimed to levy 50% on estates above CHF 50m to fund climate projects.
But the government, business groups, and most parties warned it threatened family firms and Switzerland’s economic competitiveness.
