New petition in Lausanne

Lausanne pedestrians have handed the city a petition with nearly 1,000 signatures, demanding action against cyclists and e-scooter riders who ignore pedestrian zones

The move follows the death in late May of a 79-year-old pedestrian, who was struck in the city centre by a scooter fleeing the police.

Anouck Saugy, president of Lausanne's city council, says pedestrians have become the poor relations of the city's mobility debate, and that riders must dismount in pedestrian zones.

The cycling group Pro Velo says the real fix is separate, safe cycle paths around pedestrian areas, so no one has to share the same pavement.
