Drones could monitor traffic

Researchers in Lausanne are turning to drones and AI to tackle urban traffic.

At EPFL, scientists are using aerial data and algorithms to monitor vehicle movements in real time and predict congestion before it builds up.

The idea is to adjust traffic lights and flow dynamically, without expanding roads.

Trials have already taken place in cities worldwide, and the technology could also help track pollution and noise.

Researchers say it offers a smarter way to manage increasingly crowded urban networks.
