Fees for foreign students at the Federal Polytechnics in Zurich and Lausanne will be triple what is paid by Swiss students, although still much cheaper than many other international universities.
The ETH in Zurich and the EPFL in Lausanne are considered some of the best in the world.
The increased fees will apply to all non-Swiss students, even if they live in Switzerland.
The polytechnics board were opposed to the rise, saying they want to attract the best talent from all over the world.
But, with fees for Swiss students just CHF 750 per semester – even triple that price, on an international scale – it’s still very attractive.
