Food shops in neighbouring France are doing well from Swiss shoppers.
New research from Neilson IQ shows that for stores less than 20km from the Swiss border, sales are up 9% compared to the same time last year.
Swiss workers earning francs are clearly taking advantage of the strong currency.
But the phenomenon is happening elsewhere. French shops bordering Belgium, Italy and Spain are also seeing a boost in trade.
This is down to the different inflation rates. French inflation is running at a modest 6.5%. In Belgium and Spain, it’s over 10% and 9% in Italy – making France highly attractive for bargain hunters.
