Geneva Uber drivers – currently out of work following a court ruling which shut it down in the canton – say they will form a cooperative and launch a new ride hailing service.
Yesterday a hundred drivers met and decided to launch their own app which will allow them to keep their independent status – which many value. It has the added advantage that they won’t have to pay a commission to the new organisation.
Although the initial court ruling applies to Geneva at the moment – drivers say it will impact the whole country and they expect the new app to spread.
The head of the Private Drivers Association in Geneva, Aria Jappapour Sattari, says they want to launch the new service as soon as possible. He says he expects 200 drivers will sign up.
