Ireland has officially joined CERN as an Associate Member State.
It follows ratification of the agreement signed earlier this year by CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti and Irish Minister James Lawless.
The move strengthens decades of collaboration dating back to the 1960s and opens new opportunities for Irish scientists and companies.
Ireland will now have a seat on CERN’s Council and access to major research programs and industrial contracts.
