Gynecologists and therapists are worried about the strong rise in the demand for the cosmetic treatment, labiaplasty.
The Swiss Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery say demand is up round 50%.
Global figures show its not just a Swiss trend – the procedure is 66% more popular now than 5 years ago.
One centre in Zurich, FineSkin, says it does around 1 or 2 a week – each procedure lasting an hour and costing around CHF 3,000. The main surgeon, Konstantinos Pilichos, told the Blick newspaper that it’s now one of the most popular treatments.
He says most patients are under 25 and say they want to look more beautiful.
But one gynecologist, Christiane Kluckert says it would be more useful if women talked positively about the different ways people looked.
