With the cost of energy set to climb – the government is considering several different options on how to make sure people can keep the lights on and businesses stay viable.
Some experts suggest prices could rise 10-fold.
Three options are under discussion – the price electricity is sold to the consumer could be capped, there could be hardship loans approved for hard hit businesses – similar to those used during the pandemic – and companies could buy the electricity directly from the generators, by-passing the market.
While that’s an option being seriously considered – it would mean private users would end up subsidizing the power used by businesses.
